Yay! School holidays are coming!

School holidays start Friday but remember that we run our Storytime and Rhymetime sessions throughout the year - even during school hols!

Early primary children enjoy Storytime activities and Rhymetime songs just as much as their younger siblings and are welcome to join in the fun :D  No bookings are required, so just turn up on the day and there is no cost involved so it's something free to do on the holidays.

At Storytime, we make craft items like 3D puppies, giraffe puppets and other fun items.  Each week has a new theme, where we read a few stories, sing songs and sometimes even have bubbles, puppets or musical instruments to play with.  Sessions run for about an hour.

Rhymetime sessions involve lots of singing, finger plays, puppets and music.  Sometimes a very simple story might be read.  There are usually bubbles to pop, too!  These sessions are around 30 minutes.

Just a reminder about our annual sculpture competition for school children living in the Shire.  This year the theme is One World, Many Stories.  We think this relates to the way a book or story can show you what things are like for people in different countries, worlds or situations to our own.  This means that you could make a sculpture relating to another world or culture or maybe about a book that is special to you.

Some ideas might be:
*a double-sided sculpture that compares life in one country and another, side-by-side, sort of like the book, Mirror by Jeannie Baker;
*a sculpture of a character from a book about another world, like the dragon in Eragon; or
*a sculpture relating to a book that is special to you.

Remember that sculptures can be made out of paper mache, clay, playdough, icy pole sticks, etc.

Sculptures can be delivered to the appropriate library from the 1st to the 12th of August so you have about a month to create something fantastic!

July 3rd-10th is NAIDOC week!  NAIDOC is a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and an opportunity to recognise the contributions of Indigenous Australians in various fields.

Song of the week...
A cute song to share with baby.

Tick, tock, tick, tock (Swing baby from side to side)
I'm a little cuckoo clock (Swing baby from side to side)
Tick, tock, tick, tock (Swinging)
Now I'm striking one o'clock (lift baby gently up to the sky once)

Of course, you can keep counting upwards, just lift baby the appropriate number of times for the number.

Doctor, doctor, I keep thinking I'm a clock.

Don't worry - you're just a little wound up.
